A mushroom foray cosponsored by Watoga State Park and the Pocahontas Nature Club will be held at Watoga State Park on July 22, 2017 at Watoga State Park.
Saturday’s activities will commence at Watoga State Park with a presentation on edible mushrooms, and mushrooms to avoid, that are commonly found in Pocahontas County in the summer months. Afterwards guided mushroom hikes will be available on trails ranging from easy and short to moderate and longer. After the hikes there will be a station set up for identification of collected mushrooms. There will also be a demonstration on mushroom cookery with a speaker and live music at Yew Mountain Center.
Vendors and artisans will be invited to set up booths offering a variety of mushroom items and mushroom art, and books about mushroom identification.
While attending this mushroom event you are invited to explore the trails and sights at Watoga State Park as well as nearby attractions such as the Greenbrier River Trail, Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park, Beartown State Park and the magnificent Highland Scenic Highway. For those staying overnight Watoga State Park offers camping and cabin rentals.
